Joel J. Heidelbaugh, MD, FAAFP, FACG, is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Departments of Family Medicine and Urology at the University of Michigan Medical School and has served on the faculty since graduating from his residency in 1999. He is the medical student clerkship director in the Department of Family Medicine and is active in medical student education initiatives and curriculum development at the University of Michigan Medical School. He graduated from the Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, New York in 1996 and completed his family medicine residency at St. Joseph's Hospital Health Center in Syracuse, in 1999. His clinical interests include promoting all aspects of men's health ranging from wellness and disease prevention to motivational interviewing to improve outcomes in chronic disease management.

Dr. Heidelbaugh was integral in fostering a novel collaboration in academic medicine between Family Medicine and Urology, and has developed a curriculum for men's health and primary care urology for medical students and family medicine residents. He is the creator, co-author, and editor of Clinical Men's Health: Evidence in Practice (Elsevier, 2008), the first evidence-based men's health textbook. He has been interviewed on men's health topics for CNN, Fox News, and the New York Times.
